FAQs ( Frequently Asked Questions )

The TEF (Test d’Évaluation de Français) is an international test that evaluates your level of French. It’s commonly used for Canadian immigration, French citizenship, university admissions, or to assess your overall French proficiency for professional purposes.

While both are French language assessments, DELF is a certification (you earn a fixed level like B1 or B2), and TEF is an evaluation test (it measures your current level on a scale from A1 to C2 based on your score).

The TEF exam is conducted by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Paris (CCIP), also known as the CCIP Paris Île-de-France.

The TEF score is valid for two years from the date of the test result.

The TEF exam includes up to five sections: Listening, Reading, Writing, Speaking, and Vocabulary/Grammar. Depending on your purpose (like Canada PR or studies), not all sections may be required.

For Canadian immigration, a B2 level or higher (around CLB 7–9) is considered a good score. It increases your CRS points and improves your chances of selection for Express Entry or Quebec immigration.

You can prepare through structured TEF preparation courses that focus on all four skills — reading, writing, listening, and speaking.
At The French Co, we offer tailored TEF preparation programs with mock tests, tutor feedback, and personalized practice sessions.

You can retake the TEF exam as many times as you want, but you must wait at least 30 days between attempts.
